(Dan Tri) – A Cook County judge has asked the Illinois Board of Elections to remove former President Donald Trump from the primary vote in this state.

Cook County Judge Tracie R. Porter issued a ruling on February 28, removing him from the list of Illinois presidential candidates in the 2024 US election, based on the Amendment’s `sedition ban`.
Judge Porter sided with Illinois voters who argued that former President Trump should be removed from the March 19 primary and November 5 general election for violating the Fifth Amendment.
Illinois is one of several states considering removing former President Trump from the ballot because of his role in the attack on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
According to Hill, the ruling will take effect on March 1, allowing Mr. Trump’s legal team only a short time to appeal.
Illinois is now the third state where Mr. Trump was removed from the ballot, after Colorado and Maine.
Mr. Trump can appeal the judge’s decision in Illinois state courts.
Mr. Trump’s team in January filed a petition with the Supreme Court in an effort to reverse the Colorado court’s decision to remove him from the state’s presidential candidate list in the 2024 US election.
Mr. Trump appealed the Colorado court’s December 2023 ruling, marking the first time in history that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was used to ban a presidential candidate from participating in the vote.
The Colorado court said that Mr. Trump played a role in the riot of his supporters at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Mr. Trump denied the accusations, emphasizing that he was not involved in the incident.
Mr. Trump asked the Supreme Court justices to overturn the Colorado court’s ruling without hearing arguments.
The US Supreme Court is facing pressure because their ruling could affect Mr. Trump’s political career.
The `sedition` clause is located in Section 3, 14th Amendment. Accordingly, anyone who has taken an oath to defend the constitution but then participates in `an insurrection against the constitution`
Maine’s top elections official also disqualified former President Trump from the state’s 2024 election, in a decision based on the 14th Amendment’s `sedition ban.`
Mr. Trump, 78 years old, is currently a bright presidential candidate of the Republican Party.
