John Cheeks, living in Washington DC, bought a Powerball lottery ticket on January 6, 2023.

The numbers on his ticket are a combination of family birthdays and other numbers that have personal meaning.

The story got worse when he went to the lottery office (OLG) to claim the prize.

Cheeks also said he received a strange request from a company employee, who allegedly told him: `Hey man, this ticket is useless. Throw it in the trash.`

Cheeks did not throw away his ticket.

In a statement to the court, Taoti director Brittany Bailey said that on January 6, 2023, the company’s quality assurance team was testing a time zone change for the Powerball website.

She added that those were not the numbers drawn for the January 7, 2023 Powerball drawing.

Despite Taoti’s claims, Cheeks’ attorney Richard Evans told NBC Washington: `They say one of their contractors made a mistake. I haven’t seen any evidence to support that.`

Mr Evans argued that there was precedent for such a situation.

Powerball is played in 45 states as well as in Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
